As we gather in prayer, we create a supportive atmosphere that enhances the well-being of our elderly parishioners. This gathering is especially meaningful for those who may find it challenging to attend regular services at the church due to mobility or health concerns.

Building Community Among Seniors

The Divine Liturgy is more than just a religious service; it’s an opportunity for seniors to come together in faith and fellowship. Sharing this sacred experience strengthens the bonds of friendship and support among residents, promoting mental and emotional well-being.

Additionally, family members are encouraged to attend, fostering intergenerational connections that enrich the lives of both seniors and their loved ones.

The Divine Liturgy at Southfort Bend Gardens Lodge provides an invaluable spiritual experience for seniors in our community. It serves as a reminder of God’s love, offering hope and connection through faith. Come Together in Faith “Mothers in Prayer”. In today’s fast-paced and often challenging world, the power of prayer can provide a sanctuary of hope and strength. We invite you to join our “Mothers in Prayer” gathering, a special event designed to bring women together in faith, support, and spiritual growth.

A Welcoming Community

“Mothers in Prayer” is more than just a gathering; it is a welcoming community where women from all walks of life can come together to uplift one another through the power of prayer. In this sacred space, we encourage open hearts and minds, fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and supported. Here, mothers unite with a shared purpose: to pray for our families, our parish communities, and children across the globe.

Strengthening Our Spiritual Connections

Through collective prayer, we strengthen our spiritual connections, not only with God but also with one another. The act of praying together creates bonds of sisterhood that transcend our individual lives. As we share our intentions, joys, and struggles, we find comfort and encouragement in the supportive embrace of our community. Each prayer offered during our gatherings serves to uplift our spirits and deepen our faith, reminding us that we are not alone in our journey.

Praying for Peace in Ukraine

In these times of uncertainty and conflict, our hearts go out to those suffering around the world. At our “Mothers in Prayer” gathering, we will particularly focus our prayers on peace in Ukraine. As we pray the rosary for peace, we remember the countless families affected by the war and place our trust in God’s grace. Together, we ask for divine intervention, seeking an end to violence and a restoration of harmony.

The Power of Prayer

The power of prayer cannot be underestimated. It is a source of hope that brings comfort during difficult times and a means of expressing our deepest desires and concerns. By coming together to pray, we not only strengthen our connection with God but also create a ripple effect of positive energy that extends far beyond our gathering. Each prayer lifted can help bring peace, healing, and blessings to our loved ones and the wider community.

Join Us in This Sacred Mission

We warmly invite all mothers and women of faith to join us in this sacred mission. Whether you are praying for your own family, and friends, or the well-being of our global community, your participation matters. Together, we will lift our hearts and voices in prayer, asking for God’s blessings, peace, and strength.

Creating a Lasting Impact

As we come together in faith, we hope to create a lasting impact not only within our parish but also in the world around us. Each prayer session serves as a reminder of the importance of community support and the strength that comes from united intentions. In this shared space, we empower one another to take our faith beyond our gatherings and into our daily lives.

Let Us Bring Peace and Grace to All

Let the prayers of mothers bring peace and grace to all. In this gathering, we seek to embody love and compassion, extending our prayers beyond our immediate circles. As we unite in our intentions, we invite you to bring your unique prayers and hopes, enriching our collective experience.

Join us as we gather for “Come Together in Faith: Mothers in Prayer,” where we pray for our families, our communities, and peace in Ukraine. Together, let us weave a tapestry of hope and grace through our prayers, creating a brighter future for all.

Youth Night at St. Nicholas Parish – Saturday, May 16 at 4:00 PM

“Hello Summer” – Living the Gospel During Summer Vacation

All youth are warmly invited to a special Youth Night at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Parish in Edmonton on Saturday, May 16 at 4:00 p.m.

As the school year and parish season begin to slow down for the summer months, this gathering will focus on an important question for young Christians:

How do we continue to live our faith and witness the Gospel during summer vacation?

The evening will begin with a beautiful Moleben to the Mother of God, giving everyone an opportunity to pray together and place the summer months under the protection and guidance of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Following the prayer service, youth will take part in an open and meaningful discussion about remaining close to God during the summer, keeping good values and friendships, attending church, and being a Christian witness wherever life takes us — whether at work, school, camps, vacations, or time spent with friends and family.

The gathering will also include pizza, games, fellowship, and time to simply enjoy being together in a welcoming and faith-filled atmosphere.

These monthly youth gatherings at St. Nicholas Parish, organized and led by seminarian Marko Koval from Holy Spirit Seminary in Edmonton with the support of parish priest Fr. Slavko Dumeč, have become a place where young people can ask questions, grow spiritually, and build lasting friendships rooted in faith.

This May gathering will also serve as the final youth meeting of the season before the summer break, with regular meetings expected to resume again in September.

Whether you are already active in parish life or simply searching for a place to belong, all youth are invited to come and bring friends. Everyone is welcome.

COR – Morning Prayer and Coffee for Men

A Journey of the Heart for Catholic Men

The Knights of Columbus continue to invite Catholic men into a deeper life of faith through the COR initiative — a spiritual formation movement whose name comes from the Latin word for “heart.” COR is more than a program or study group. It is an invitation to conversion of heart, fraternity, prayer, and authentic Catholic discipleship.

At our parish, COR has become a place where men gather not only to learn about the faith, but to encounter Christ personally through prayer, Scripture, brotherhood, and the sacramental life of the Church.

Each month, we begin with the Divine Liturgy at 9:00 AM, placing Christ and the Eucharist at the center of everything we do. From the altar we continue into fellowship over coffee and open discussion — simple, honest conversations about faith, family, struggles, vocation, and daily Christian life.

There is no pressure and no expectation of perfection. COR is a place for ordinary men seeking to grow closer to God together.

What is COR?

COR was launched by the Knights of Columbus as a parish-based initiative for Catholic men centered on:

The purpose of COR is simple: to help men become better sons, husbands, fathers, grandfathers, brothers, and disciples of Jesus Christ.

The heart of COR is not activism or meetings alone, but spiritual transformation rooted in Christ. Men today carry many burdens — work, family responsibilities, loneliness, uncertainty, cultural confusion, and often silent suffering. COR seeks to provide a place where men rediscover that they do not walk alone.

Rooted in Prayer and the Eucharist

Every authentic renewal in the Church begins with prayer.

For that reason, our gatherings are intentionally centered around:

We strive to build fraternity not merely as friendship, but as spiritual brotherhood rooted in Christ.

As men pray together, they begin to support one another more deeply — learning how to carry burdens, strengthen families, and live the Gospel with courage and humility.

Men of the Word – A Bible Study for Catholic Men

Our present formation journey continues through the Knights of Columbus study series:

Men of the Word – A Bible Study for Catholic Men

This study invites men to encounter Christ through Sacred Scripture and to rediscover the foundations of Catholic faith.

Session One: The Good News

We began at the very heart of Christianity: the Gospel.

Reflecting on the Road to Emmaus, the proclamation of the Apostles, and Christ revealed in Word and Sacrament, we were reminded that Christianity does not begin with rules, politics, or mere moralism.

Christianity begins with Jesus Christ.

The Good News is that:

Before a man can truly lead others, he must first encounter Christ himself.

Session Two: Created for God

From there, we continued into the deeper question of identity:

Who am I?

Modern society often tells men that their worth comes from success, money, power, productivity, or social status. The Gospel teaches something radically different.

Every human person is created intentionally in the image and likeness of God.

Our dignity comes first from being beloved sons of the Heavenly Father.

This truth changes how we understand:

Saint Augustine wrote:

“Our hearts are restless until they rest in You.”

COR calls men back to that truth.

Continuing the Journey

As we continue our formation, future sessions and reflections will gradually explore:

Our long-term spiritual vision also draws from our local parish journey:

A Fisherman’s Guide to Faith and Life

Inspired by Alberta’s waters, seasons, and the Gospel image of Christ calling fishermen, this path reminds us that faith is learned patiently — often quietly — through perseverance, discipline, prayer, and trust in God.

Like fishermen casting nets into deeper waters, men are called to go deeper spiritually:

Breathing with Both Lungs

Our spirituality is deeply rooted in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic tradition and the beauty of the Christian East:

At the same time, we embrace the fullness of the Catholic Church, drawing from both Eastern and Western traditions — “breathing with both lungs,” as taught by Pope John Paul II.

This allows men from many backgrounds to feel welcome and spiritually nourished.

A Place for Newcomers and Immigrants

Our parish community includes many newcomers to Canada, especially families affected by war, displacement, and instability.

For many men, COR becomes more than a study group. It becomes:

Men are able to share experiences, support one another, and gradually build community in a new country.

Why COR Matters Today

Modern men often struggle silently with questions such as:

COR creates space for those questions.

It is a place where men can:

An Invitation

Our gatherings currently take place once each month. As fraternity and participation grow, we hope to continue expanding opportunities for prayer, study, fellowship, and service.

Whether you are:

you are welcome.

Come pray with us.
Come share coffee and conversation.
Come rediscover Christ.
Come grow heart to heart — COR to COR.

In Christ,

Men of the Word – A Bible Study for Catholic Men

Pope John Paul II.

о. (Fr. Slavko Dumeč)
