Experience the Weekly Divine Liturgy on Wednesdays

Join us every Wednesday for the Weekly Divine Liturgy at our parish, a beautiful opportunity for worship, reflection, and community bonding in the heart of our spiritual life. This midweek service allows our congregation to come together to deepen our faith, find solace in prayer, and connect.

The Significance of the Divine Liturgy

The Divine Liturgy is the central act of worship in the Ukrainian Catholic tradition. It is a sacred celebration where we gather as a community to honour and remember the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. During this service, we participate in the Holy Eucharist, which is the foundation of our faith and a source of spiritual nourishment.

Wednesdays are particularly special, offering a pause in the week for spiritual renewal and connection with God. Whether you are a longtime member of our parish or a newcomer seeking a spiritual home, you are warmly invited to join us for this uplifting experience.

A Welcoming Environment for All

Our Weekly Divine Liturgy on Wednesdays is designed to be accessible and welcoming for everyone, including families and individuals of all ages. We encourage parents to bring their children, as this is a wonderful opportunity to instill the values of faith and community from a young age.

The atmosphere during the Divine Liturgy is warm and inviting, creating a sense of belonging for all attendees. We strive to make every participant feel at home, allowing them to engage fully in the worship experience.

The Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord – August 6

On Thursday, August 6, the Church celebrates one of the Great Feasts of the liturgical year: the Transfiguration of Our Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ.

This feast commemorates the moment when Jesus took Peter, James, and John up Mount Tabor. There, before their eyes, His face shone like the sun, His garments became dazzling white, and Moses and Elijah appeared speaking with Him. From the bright cloud, the voice of the Father proclaimed: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.” (Matthew 17:5)

The Transfiguration revealed to the apostles that Jesus is truly the eternal Son of God. It also strengthened them for the suffering they would soon witness during His Passion. By allowing them to glimpse His divine glory, Christ prepared them to remain faithful when the Cross would seem to hide that glory.

For us today, this feast reminds us that we, too, are called to be transformed by God’s grace. Through prayer, the Holy Mysteries, and a life of faith and charity, we grow ever more into the likeness of Christ. The light that shone on Mount Tabor is the same divine light that God desires to shine in our hearts.

In the Byzantine tradition, the blessing of grapes and other first fruits is an important part of this feast. It is a beautiful expression of thanksgiving for God’s abundant gifts and a reminder that all creation is called to be renewed and offered back to Him.

Everyone is warmly invited to celebrate this beautiful feast at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 7:00 PM, followed by the traditional Blessing of Fruits. Please bring grapes, apples, or other fruits to be blessed as we give thanks to God for the harvest and for His many blessings.

May the radiant light of Christ’s Transfiguration transform our hearts and lead us ever closer to His eternal glory.
