SUMMARY:COR - Morning Prayer and Coffee for the Man
DESCRIPTION:COR – Morning Prayer and Coffee for the Man\nA Journey of the Heart for Catholic Men\nThe Knights of Columbus continue to invite Catholic men into a deeper life of faith through COR — a formation initiative whose name comes from the Latin word for “heart.” COR is not simply a program. It is a path of interior renewal\, fraternity\, and spiritual growth. \nEach month\, we gather first around the altar for the Divine Liturgy at 9:00 AM\, grounding everything in prayer and the Eucharistic life of the Church. Afterward\, we meet for coffee and open conversation. The atmosphere is simple and fraternal. There are no complicated expectations — only men seeking Christ together. \nBeginning with the Good News\nOur current formation series\, Men of the Word – A Bible Study for Catholic Men\, began at the very foundation of Christianity: the Gospel. \nIn Session One: The Good News\, we reflected on key Scripture passages — including the encounter on the Road to Emmaus and the call to proclaim Christ. We were reminded that Christianity does not begin with rules or moral demands. It begins with an encounter. The Good News is that Jesus Christ is alive\, seeks us personally\, walks beside us\, and reveals Himself in Word and Sacrament. \nBefore we can live the Commandments\, understand Church teaching\, or lead our families well\, we must first receive the transforming truth that we are loved and redeemed. \nRediscovering Who We Are\nFrom there\, we moved to Session Two: Created for God. If the Gospel tells us what Christ has done for us\, this session asks a deeper question: Who are we? \nWe reflected on the truth that we are not accidents of history or products of chance. We are created intentionally\, in the image and likeness of God. Our dignity as men comes not from achievement\, status\, or success — but from being sons of the Father. \nTo understand that we are created for communion with God changes everything. It reshapes how we see our vocation\, how we treat others\, how we approach suffering\, and how we lead in our homes and parishes. Our hearts are restless because they were made for Him. \nCasting Nets into Deeper Waters\nThis study forms part of a longer spiritual journey we call A Fisherman’s Guide to Faith and Life. Rooted in the Catechism of the Catholic Church\, this path gradually explores: \n\n\nThe Commandments — guiding our moral life \n\n\nThe Liturgical Year — shaping our spiritual rhythm \n\n\nThe Teachings of the Church — grounding us in truth \n\n\nLike fishermen casting their nets into Alberta’s waters\, we learn patience\, discipline\, and perseverance. Faith grows not in isolation\, but in fraternity. \nThese gatherings are open to all Catholic men\, whether lifelong Knights or those simply searching for deeper meaning. While our spirituality is rooted in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic tradition\, we draw deeply from both Eastern and Western expressions of the one Catholic faith — “breathing with both lungs\,” as Pope John Paul II once described the Church. \nWe begin simply — meeting once a month. As fraternity grows\, so may the rhythm of our gatherings. \nMen are not meant to walk alone. We invite you to come\, pray\, reflect\, and grow — heart to heart\, COR to COR — in Christ. \nCome\, pray\, learn\, and grow in faith with us. \nIn Christ\,Fr.

SUMMARY:Saint Michael Cemetery @ 2PM - Easter Graveside Visits
DESCRIPTION:🌿 Provody (Проводи): Easter Graveside Visits in Ukrainian Tradition\nProvody is a Ukrainian tradition of visiting cemeteries during the Paschal season to remember deceased family members. It is observed in various forms across Ukraine and in Ukrainian diaspora communities\, most commonly during the weeks following Easter or on Thomas Sunday\, depending on local custom. \n\n📜 Historical Background\nSpringtime remembrance of the dead existed in many pre-Christian Slavic communities as a seasonal family and ancestral practice connected with the arrival of spring. \nWith the Christianization of Kievan Rus’ (10th century)\, these existing cultural patterns of remembrance were gradually integrated into the life of the Church and reinterpreted through the Christian understanding of prayer for the dead and the Resurrection of Christ. \nOver time\, this developed into the Eastern Slavic practice known as Radonitsa or\, in Ukrainian tradition\, Provody\, shaped by parish life\, local customs\, and pastoral practice. \n\n🌿 Development in Ukrainian Tradition\nIn Ukrainian villages and parishes\, Provody became a regular springtime custom. Families would visit cemeteries after Easter services or during the Paschal season to remember their departed relatives. \nBy the 17th–19th centuries\, common elements included: \n\nvisiting and cleaning family graves\nplacing flowers and lighting candles\noffering prayers for the deceased\ngathering as families in remembrance\n\nIn many communities\, priests also visited cemeteries to offer prayers and blessings. \n\n🌸 Traditional Practice\nCemetery Visits\nFamilies visit graves during the Paschal season\, often in the days or weeks following Easter\, depending on local tradition. \nGraves are cleaned and decorated with flowers\, candles\, and sometimes embroidered cloths. \n\nPrayer and Remembrance\nAt the graves\, families: \n\npray for their deceased relatives\nexchange the Paschal greeting:“Christ is risen!” – “Indeed He is risen!”\nremember loved ones by name\n\nIn some parishes\, clergy may lead short prayers or blessings. \n\nFamily Gathering and Food\nA distinctive feature of Provody is the sharing of Easter food such as paska and dyed eggs. \nThese foods are understood as part of family celebration and remembrance of the Resurrection. Prayer remains the central act\, while shared food reflects family unity and continuity of Easter joy. \n\n🌍 Modern Practice\nToday\, Provody continues in Ukraine and throughout the Ukrainian diaspora\, including Canada\, the United States\, and Europe. \nWhile the timing and form may vary: \n\ncemetery visits remain common during the Paschal season\nparish-organized services are often held\nfamilies continue the practice of remembrance and prayer\n\nUrban life and migration have made the practice more flexible\, but its core elements remain. \n\n🌿 Cultural Significance\nProvody reflects: \n\ncontinuity of family memory\nthe integration of faith and culture\nseasonal rhythms of remembrance in spring\nthe importance of cemeteries as places of memory and prayer\n\n\n✨ Summary\nProvody is a Ukrainian Easter-season tradition of visiting cemeteries to remember the departed\, shaped by early Slavic customs and later developed within Christian parish life as a practice of prayer\, remembrance\, and family continuity.

SUMMARY:Rosary Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Join Us for the Rosary Prayer Before Divine Liturgy\nAs we gather in faith\, we invite you to participate in our Rosary Prayer Before Divine Liturgy\, a special opportunity to prepare our hearts and minds for worship. This sacred time of prayer is open to all\, providing a space for reflection\, devotion\, and community connection. \nA Sacred Tradition \nThe rosary is a powerful form of prayer that has been cherished in the Catholic tradition for centuries. By praying the rosary\, we meditate on the life of Jesus Christ and the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This beautiful devotion helps us deepen our relationship with God\, fostering a sense of peace and spiritual clarity. In our parish\, we honour this tradition by offering a communal rosary prayer before each Divine Liturgy. \nPreparing for Worship \nThe Rosary Prayer Before Divine Liturgy serves as an essential preparation for the liturgical celebration that follows. As we come together to pray\, we create an atmosphere of reverence and unity within our community. Each bead of the rosary represents a moment of contemplation\, allowing us to reflect on the mysteries of faith and the love of God. \nThis time of prayer is not only a personal journey but also a collective experience that strengthens our bonds as a parish community. We encourage everyone to participate\, whether you are a long-time member of our parish or a newcomer seeking a deeper understanding of our faith. \nPraying for Peace and Guidance \nDuring the rosary\, we lift our intentions to God\, praying for our families\, our communities\, and those in need of comfort and healing. In particular\, we focus our prayers on peace in our world\, seeking divine intervention in times of conflict and unrest. As we pray\, we remember those suffering from the challenges in Ukraine and around the globe\, placing our trust in God’s grace and mercy. \nThe act of praying the rosary invites us to pause and reflect on the blessings in our lives while acknowledging the struggles we face. Together\, we ask for strength and guidance\, fostering a spirit of hope that transcends our individual experiences. \nA Welcoming Community \nWe invite all members of our parish and newcomers alike to join us for the Rosary Prayer Before Divine Liturgy. This gathering is open to everyone\, regardless of your familiarity with the rosary or your level of faith. Our community is built on love\, support\, and shared spiritual growth\, making it a welcoming place for all. \nThe Power of Collective Prayer \nThe Rosary Prayer Before Divine Liturgy exemplifies the power of collective prayer. When we come together to pray\, we create a ripple effect of positive energy that can bring about transformation in our lives and the lives of those around us. Each prayer offered is a testament to our faith and commitment to supporting one another on our spiritual journeys. \nJoin Us for This Special Occasion \nWe warmly welcome you to participate in this special occasion of faith and community. As we gather for the Rosary Prayer Before Divine Liturgy\, let us open our hearts to the grace of God and the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Your presence enriches our community and strengthens our collective prayers. \nTogether\, let us embark on this sacred journey\, seeking peace\, guidance\, and unity through our devotion.
