SUMMARY:Хресна Дорога i Парастас followed by confession

SUMMARY:Vespers with the Laying of the Shroud - Виставлення Плащаниці @ 11:00 a.m.
DESCRIPTION:Holy / Good Friday Great Vespers with the Laying of the Shroud Виставлення Плащаниці @ 11:00 a.m. \n  \nGreat (Holy) Friday Vespers with the Laying of the Shroud (Plashchanitsa)\nВелика П’ятниця: Вечірня з виставленням Плащаниці\n\nENGLISH\nA Living Participation in the Burial of Christ\nThe service of Great (Holy) Friday Vespers with the Laying of the Shroud (Plashchanitsa) is one of the most profound and sacred moments in the liturgical life of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. It is deeply rooted in Sacred Scripture\, early Christian practice\, and the rich theological tradition of the Byzantine Rite. \nThis service does not simply recall a past event—it invites the faithful to enter into the burial of Christ. \n\nBiblical Foundation: The Burial Before Sunset\nThe entire service is grounded in the Gospel accounts of Christ’s burial. After His Crucifixion: \n\nJoseph of Arimathea takes down the body of Jesus\nHe is wrapped in a burial cloth\nHe is placed in a tomb before sunset\n\nBecause the burial took place in the evening\, the Church places this mystery within Vespers\, the liturgical service that marks the transition into night. Even when celebrated earlier in the day for pastoral reasons (such as 11:00 a.m.)\, the theological meaning remains: we stand at the moment when Christ is laid in the tomb. \n\nHistorical Roots: From Jerusalem to the Byzantine Tradition\nAs early as the 4th century\, Christians in Jerusalem gathered on Great Friday at the holy places to commemorate the Passion and burial of Christ. These early practices—known as Hagiopolite traditions—included Gospel readings\, psalms\, and solemn processions. \nOver time\, these commemorations developed organically into the structured liturgical life of the Byzantine Church. What began as pilgrimage became liturgical participation. The faithful no longer only remembered the events—they entered into them. \nThe Plashchanitsa (also known as the Epitaphios) itself is clearly attested in Byzantine use by the 14th century\, though its roots are likely earlier. It emerged as a visual and devotional expression of Christ’s burial\, allowing the faithful to see and venerate the image of the Savior lying in the tomb. \n\nThe Procession: The People Carry Christ\nIn the Ukrainian tradition\, a particularly powerful element of this service is the procession with the Plashchanitsa. \n\nThe faithful reverently carry the Shroud\nThe priest follows behind in prayer\nThe entire community walks together\n\nAt the conclusion of the procession: \n\nThe priest receives the Plashchanitsa\nHe solemnly places it on the prepared tomb in the center of the church\nThe faithful come forward to venerate\n\nThis reveals a profound truth:the whole Church—clergy and faithful together—participates in the burial of Christ. \n\nThe Meaning of the Plashchanitsa\nThe Plashchanitsa is not merely an image. It is a liturgical icon that proclaims: \n\nChrist truly died and was truly buried\nHe fully entered into human suffering and death\nThe tomb becomes the beginning of victory\n\nAs taught in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 624–628)\, Christ’s burial confirms the reality of His death and reveals its saving meaning. \n\nThe Great Silence and the Mystery of Hope\nFrom Great Friday until Pascha\, the Church enters what is often called the “Great Silence.” \nChrist rests in the tomb\, yet He is not inactive. In this sacred mystery\, He descends into Hades to bring light to those who were in darkness. \nThus\, the tomb is transformed: \n\nfrom a place of death\ninto a place of expectation and hope\n\n\nA Baptismal and Human Mystery\nThe burial of Christ also reveals something about our own lives. \nIn Baptism: \n\nwe are buried with Christ\nso that we may rise with Him\n\nThe tomb becomes not an end\, but a passage to new life. The Plashchanitsa therefore represents not only Christ\, but every human life entrusted to God\, awaiting resurrection. \n\nA Living Tradition of Faith\nWithin the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church\, this service has become a deeply cherished expression of faith\, especially among people who have experienced suffering\, loss\, and displacement. \nHere\, the faithful encounter the truth: \n\nthe Cross is real\ndeath is real\nbut the Resurrection is stronger than both\n\n\nConclusion\nGreat Friday Vespers with the Laying of the Shroud is not simply a remembrance of the past. It is a sacred encounter. \nIn this service: \n\nWe walk with Christ\nWe carry Him to the tomb\nWe stand in silence\n\nAnd in that silence\, with faith and hope\, we await the light of the Resurrection. \n

SUMMARY:Jerusalem Matins @ 7:00 PM
DESCRIPTION:**What Is “Jerusalem Matins”?\nA Simple Guide for Our Parish** \nMany of us have experienced the beautiful and moving service of Matins—especially during Holy Week\, when we stand before the Plashchanytsia (Holy Shroud). Sometimes this service is called “Jerusalem Matins.” \nBut what does that really mean? Where does this service come from? \nLet us take a simple journey through its history and meaning. \n\n\n\n1. It All Begins in Jerusalem\nEverything begins in Jerusalem\, at the place where Jesus was crucified\, buried\, and rose from the dead—the Holy Sepulchre. \nIn the early Church (around the 300s)\, Christians gathered there during the night to pray. One pilgrim named Egeria left us a description of what she saw: \n\nPeople prayed psalms through the night\nThey listened to readings from Scripture\nAt dawn\, they went in procession to the tomb\nThen the Gospel of the Resurrection was proclaimed\n\nThis was not just a prayer service.\nIt was an experience of the Resurrection. \n👉 This is the beginning of what we now call Matins. \n\n\n\n2. From Night to Morning: A Living Symbol\nThis early service had a powerful meaning: \n\nIt began in darkness\nIt ended in light\n\nJust like: \n\nJesus died and was buried\nAnd then rose again at dawn\n\nEven today\, Matins follows this same pattern. \n\n\n\n3. Monks Helped Shape the Service\nIn the early centuries\, monks in places like Egypt and the Holy Land prayed during the night. \nA monk named John Cassian tells us: \n\nMonks prayed through the night (Vigil)\nAt dawn\, they sang psalms of praise like:\n\n“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord”\n\n\n\nThese morning prayers became what we now call Lauds—the heart of Matins. \n👉 Over time\, the Church joined together: \n\nThe Jerusalem Resurrection vigil\nThe monastic night prayers\n\nAnd this became the full service of Matins. \n\n\n\n4. The Church Organized the Service\nAs the Church grew\, it organized these prayers carefully. \nTwo important traditions helped shape Matins: \n\nThe Typikon of Saint Sabbas\n(from the Holy Land\, keeping the spirit of Jerusalem)\nThe Studite Typikon\n(from Constantinople\, organizing the structure)\n\n👉 Together\, they gave us the Matins we celebrate today. \n\n\n\n5. It Came to Our People\nWhen our ancestors accepted Christianity in the year 988 (the Baptism of Kyivan Rus’)\, they received this whole tradition. \nFrom that time on: \n\nMatins became part of our Church life\nIt was prayed in monasteries and parishes\nIt was translated into Church Slavonic\n\nThis is the same tradition we have today in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. \n\n\n\n6. What Does “Jerusalem Matins” Mean for Us Today?\nIn our Church\, the term “Jerusalem Matins” is used especially for: \n👉 Holy Saturday Matins before the Plashchanytsia \nThis is one of the most beautiful services of the year. \nDuring this service: \n\nWe stand before Christ in the tomb\nWe sing sorrowful but hopeful hymns\nWe hear words like:\n“Do not weep for Me\, O Mother…”\n\nAnd then: \n\nThere is a procession\nWe begin to feel the coming Resurrection\n\n👉 This is exactly what Christians did long ago in Jerusalem. \n\n\n\n7. What Happens During Matins? (Simple Explanation)\nEven if the service feels long or complex\, its meaning is simple. \nHere are the main parts: \n\nPsalms in silence → waiting in darkness\nHymns (Canon) → telling the story of salvation\nGospel reading → Christ speaks to us\nSongs of praise → all creation rejoices\nDoxology (“Glory to God”) → light has come\n\n👉 The whole service moves from:\ndarkness → light\ndeath → life\ncross → resurrection \n\n\n\n8. Why This Service Matters\nMatins is not just “another service.” \nIt helps us: \n\nStand with the myrrh-bearing women at the tomb\nExperience the silence of Holy Saturday\nPrepare our hearts for the Resurrection\n\nIt teaches us something very important: \n👉 Even when everything seems dark\,\nGod is already preparing the Resurrection. \n\n\n\n9. A Final Thought\nWhen you come to Matins—especially during Holy Week—remember: \nYou are not just in church. \nYou are: \n\nStanding at the tomb of Christ\nWaiting in the early morning\nListening for the voice of the Risen Lord\n\nAnd just like the first Christians in Jerusalem… \n👉 You are witnessing the Resurrection. \n\n\n\n“Glory be to Jesus Christ!”

SUMMARY:The Divine Liturgy of Saint Basil the Great and the Blessing of Easter Baskets @ 12:30 PM
DESCRIPTION:Holy Saturday in Our Church\nThe Divine Liturgy of Saint Basil the Great and the Blessing of Easter Baskets\n\nA Quiet but Powerful Day\nHoly Saturday is a very special day. Everything seems quiet. \nJesus is in the tomb. The Church is silent. \nBut something very important is happening. \nEven though we do not see it: \n\nChrist is already defeating death\nHe is opening heaven\nHe is preparing the Resurrection\n\nThis is why this day is not only sad—it is filled with hope. \n\nThe Special Liturgy of This Day\nOn Holy Saturday\, we celebrate the Divine Liturgy of Saint Basil the Great. \nThis Liturgy is not used often during the year\, but it is chosen for this day because it is: \n\nLonger\nDeeper\nFull of meaning\n\nDuring this Liturgy\, we hear the whole story of our faith: \n\nGod created the world\nHumanity fell into sin\nGod did not abandon us\nChrist came to save us\n\nThis helps us understand what is happening on Holy Saturday:\n👉 Jesus enters death in order to destroy it from the inside \n\nWhy This Liturgy Is Important\nDuring Great Lent: \n\nWe usually do not celebrate the Divine Liturgy on weekdays\n\nBut Holy Saturday is different. \nThis Liturgy shows us: \n\nWe are very close to Easter\nThe darkness is already passing\nThe light of the Resurrection is beginning to shine\n\n\nWhat About Vespers?\nYou may sometimes hear that this service includes “Vespers.” \nHistorically\, in monasteries\, the service included: \n\nPsalms\nOld Testament readings\nThen the Divine Liturgy\n\nToday\, in most parishes: \n\nWe simply celebrate the Divine Liturgy of Saint Basil\nSome of those older elements may still be present\n\nSo the important thing to remember is:\n👉 This is the main Liturgy of Holy Saturday \n\nThe Blessing of Easter Baskets\nAnother beautiful tradition is the blessing of Easter food. \nPeople bring baskets with: \n\nBread (paska)\nEggs\nMeat\nButter and cheese\n\nThis tradition is especially strong in our Ukrainian Church. \n\nWhat Do These Foods Mean?\nEach item has a meaning: \n\nBread → Jesus\, the Bread of Life\nEggs → New life and Resurrection\nMeat → The end of fasting and time of joy\nButter and cheese → God’s goodness and blessing\n\nThese foods are not just for eating—they remind us of Easter joy. \n\nWhen Are the Baskets Blessed?\nThe blessing is connected to Easter (Pascha). \nIn many places: \n\nIt happens on Holy Saturday\nOr after the Easter night services\nOr on Easter Sunday\n\nThe exact time may be different\, but the meaning is the same:\n👉 We are preparing to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ \n\nWhat This Day Means for Us\nHoly Saturday teaches us something very important: \n\nEven when everything seems quiet\, God is working\nEven when things feel dark\, light is coming\nEven in death\, life is stronger\n\n\nA Simple Message to Remember\n\nOn Holy Saturday\, Jesus is in the tomb—but already He is defeating death. In the Liturgy\, we hear the story of our salvation. And in our Easter baskets\, we prepare to celebrate new life.

SUMMARY:Nadhrobne (Надгробне) – The Service at the Tomb @ 7:00 PM
DESCRIPTION:Nadhrobne (Надгробне) – The Service at the Tomb\n\nWhat Is Nadhrobne?\nNadhrobne means “at the tomb.”It is a special prayer service where the Church gathers around the Plashchanitsia (Holy Shroud)\, which represents Jesus’ tomb. \nThis service usually happens: \n\nOn Holy Saturday\nOr sometimes before Paschal Matins on Easter Sunday\n\nIt helps us stand with Christ in the tomb and prepare for the joy of His Resurrection. \n\nWhere Does This Service Come From?\n\nNadhrobne comes from early Christian traditions in Jerusalem\, where believers prayed at Christ’s tomb.\nIn the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church\, it is part of the Trebnyk (Требник)\, the Church’s ritual book for prayers\, blessings\, and memorial services.\nIt is closely related to funeral prayers (Panakhyda) and monastic daily prayers (Horologion)\, adapted to the burial of Christ.\n\nEven though it feels devotional\, it is an official part of the Church’s liturgy. \n\nWhat Happens During the Service?\n1. Psalms and Hymns\n\nPsalms like Psalm 62\, 118\, 140\, 148–150\nHymns reflecting Christ’s death\, burial\, and the hope of Resurrection\n\n2. Gospel Reading and Canticles\n\nGospel about the women at the tomb (Myrrhophores)\nCanticles like the Nunc dimittis\n\n3. Prayers and Litanies\n\nSpecial prayers for the dead and for salvation\nIncensing of the tomb\nSometimes oil is poured over the tomb three times\, reminding us of baptism and new life\n\n4. Conclusion\n\nTrisagion (Holy God)\nOur Father\nFinal hymns and veneration of the tomb\nSometimes a small procession around the Plashchanitsia\n\n\nHow Is Nadhrobne Different from the Divine Liturgy of Saint Basil?\n\n\n\n\n\nNadhrobne\nSt. Basil’s Liturgy\n\n\n\n\nReflective and prayerful\nEucharistic and celebratory\n\n\nFocuses on Christ in the tomb\nProclaims salvation history\n\n\nUses psalms\, hymns\, readings\nCentral Eucharist with Anaphora\n\n\nEmphasizes waiting and silence\nEmphasizes Resurrection joy\n\n\nOptional procession and veneration\nCommunion of the faithful\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy Nadhrobne Is Important\n\nIt helps us enter the silence of Holy Saturday.\nIt reminds us that Christ has truly died.\nIt prepares our hearts for the joy of Easter.\nIt connects us to early Christian and monastic traditions.\n\n\nA Simple Way to Think About It\n\n“Nadhrobne is when we gather at the tomb of Jesus. We pray\, we wait\, and we honor Him. We remember His death\, but we trust that Resurrection and new life are coming.”

SUMMARY:Paschal Matins with Divine Liturgy and Blessing of Paschal Baskets @ 7:00 AM
DESCRIPTION:Paschal Matins with Divine Liturgy at Saint Nicholas Parish\nCelebrating the Joy of Christ’s Resurrection\nEarly on Easter Sunday morning\, the faithful of Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Greek Catholic Parish gather for the radiant celebration of Paschal Matins with Divine Liturgy. This sacred service leads the community from the solemn remembrance of Christ’s burial—symbolized by the Plashchanytsia\, the embroidered or painted shroud depicting Christ in the tomb—to the joyous proclamation of His Resurrection\, fulfilling the Paschal mystery as the “Feast of Feasts.” \nWe warmly invite all parishioners and visitors\, whether lifelong members or first-time guests\, to join in this beautiful celebration. Come and share in the joy\, light\, and hope of Christ’s Resurrection with your parish family. \n\n1. Paschal Midnight Office and Transfer of the Plashchanytsia\nBefore Matins proper\, many parishes begin with the Paschal Midnight Office (Poliúshchna). \n\nThe priest transfers the Plashchanytsia from its tomb to the altar amid quiet anticipation and candlelight\, evoking the myrrh-bearing women at the tomb.\nEven if celebrated early for accessibility\, this rite recalls the ancient nocturnal vigil rooted in 9th-century Byzantine tradition.\nThe darkened church evokes Christ’s tomb\, and the faithful move from mourning to the dawn of Resurrection joy\, as candles are lit from the new Paschal fire\, symbolizing Christ as the “great Light” of the world.\n\nThis moment reminds us that even in sorrow\, Christ’s light breaks through\, filling hearts with hope and life. \n\n2. Paschal Matins: Procession\, Hymns\, and Festal Greeting\nAfter the Plashchanytsia is placed on the altar\, the priest leads the faithful outside for a threefold procession around the church. \n\n\nCandles in hand\, we sing: \n\n“Christ is risen from the dead\, trampling down death by death\, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life!” \n\n\n\nAt the final circuit\, the priest knocks on the closed church doors with the hand-cross\, announcing the Resurrection. Upon re-entering\, the congregation celebrates: \n\n“This is the day of Resurrection! Let us embrace one another\, forgive as Christ forgave\, and rejoice together—Christ is risen!” \n\n\n\nMatins then unfolds with its ancient structure\, including: \n\nSix Psalms (Hexapsalmos) — a vigil in darkness awaiting Christ’s light.\nFestal Canon and Paschal hymns\, including the Evlogetaria\, celebrating the angelic joy at the Resurrection.\nGospel readings and Psalms of Praise\, drawing the faithful into salvation history from Bethlehem to the empty tomb.\n\nThe faithful exchange the Paschal greeting (“Christ is risen!” / “Truly\, He is risen!”) and the Easter kiss\, even with strangers\, symbolizing love\, reconciliation\, and community. \n\n3. Divine Liturgy of Pascha\nFollowing Matins\, the Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom centers on the Risen Christ in the Eucharist\, re-presenting His Passion\, Death\, and Resurrection as the heart of salvation. \n\nScripture readings proclaim the empty tomb and God’s life-giving victory.\nThrough Holy Communion\, the faithful encounter Christ personally\, celebrating the triumph of light over darkness.\nEaster is not just a day but a renewal of hope\, faith\, and love\, echoing through all Sundays as “little Paschas.”\n\n\n4. Blessing of Paschal Baskets (Sviachene)\nAfter the Liturgy\, families bring Easter baskets filled with paska bread\, red eggs\, meats\, cheese\, and butter to be blessed. \n\nThe priest sprinkles holy water\, invoking God’s blessing on creation\, homes\, and hearts.\nThis ritual links the liturgical celebration with family life\, turning daily meals into acts of gratitude.\nEggs\, bread\, and firstfruits symbolize new life and Christ’s renewal\, extending Resurrection joy into every home.\n\n\nRooted in Tradition\, Full of Love\nFrom the Midnight Office transfer and tomb-like darkness\, through the procession and Matins’ hymns\, to the Eucharistic triumph and blessing of baskets\, the celebration at Saint Nicholas Parish draws the faithful into the living reality of Christ’s Pascha. \n\nThe candles\, hymns\, greetings\, and processions are more than rituals—they are an invitation to share Christ’s love\, light\, and joy with family\, neighbors\, and community.\nEvery Sunday can become a “little Pascha\,” a chance to conquer darkness in our own lives through the Risen Christ.\n\n\nChrist is risen! Truly\, He is risen! (Христос воскрес! Воістину воскрес!)

This sacred time of prayer is open to all\, providing a space for reflection\, devotion\, and community connection. \nA Sacred Tradition \nThe rosary is a powerful form of prayer that has been cherished in the Catholic tradition for centuries. By praying the rosary\, we meditate on the life of Jesus Christ and the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This beautiful devotion helps us deepen our relationship with God\, fostering a sense of peace and spiritual clarity. In our parish\, we honour this tradition by offering a communal rosary prayer before each Divine Liturgy. \nPreparing for Worship \nThe Rosary Prayer Before Divine Liturgy serves as an essential preparation for the liturgical celebration that follows. As we come together to pray\, we create an atmosphere of reverence and unity within our community. Each bead of the rosary represents a moment of contemplation\, allowing us to reflect on the mysteries of faith and the love of God. \nThis time of prayer is not only a personal journey but also a collective experience that strengthens our bonds as a parish community. We encourage everyone to participate\, whether you are a long-time member of our parish or a newcomer seeking a deeper understanding of our faith. \nPraying for Peace and Guidance \nDuring the rosary\, we lift our intentions to God\, praying for our families\, our communities\, and those in need of comfort and healing. In particular\, we focus our prayers on peace in our world\, seeking divine intervention in times of conflict and unrest. As we pray\, we remember those suffering from the challenges in Ukraine and around the globe\, placing our trust in God’s grace and mercy. \nThe act of praying the rosary invites us to pause and reflect on the blessings in our lives while acknowledging the struggles we face. Together\, we ask for strength and guidance\, fostering a spirit of hope that transcends our individual experiences. \nA Welcoming Community \nWe invite all members of our parish and newcomers alike to join us for the Rosary Prayer Before Divine Liturgy. This gathering is open to everyone\, regardless of your familiarity with the rosary or your level of faith. Our community is built on love\, support\, and shared spiritual growth\, making it a welcoming place for all. \nThe Power of Collective Prayer \nThe Rosary Prayer Before Divine Liturgy exemplifies the power of collective prayer. When we come together to pray\, we create a ripple effect of positive energy that can bring about transformation in our lives and the lives of those around us. Each prayer offered is a testament to our faith and commitment to supporting one another on our spiritual journeys. \nJoin Us for This Special Occasion \nWe warmly welcome you to participate in this special occasion of faith and community. SUMMARY:Additional Ukrainian Greek Catholic and Folk Traditions for Pascha
DESCRIPTION:Additional Ukrainian Greek Catholic and Folk Traditions for Pascha\nExtending the Joy of Christ’s Resurrection\nAt Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Greek Catholic Parish\, the celebration of Easter (Pascha) continues beyond Sunday\, blending liturgical richness with beloved folk traditions. These customs—rooted in UGCC liturgy and Ukrainian culture—offer families and communities ways to live the Resurrection fully during Bright Week. \n\n1. Graveside Visits (Pohreby)\nAfter Easter Sunday’s Divine Liturgy and blessing of baskets\, families often visit the graves of deceased loved ones\, bringing paska\, red eggs\, meats\, and blessed foods. \n\nCandles are lit\, prayers are offered\, and the Paschal greeting “Christ is risen!” / “Truly\, He is risen!” is shared.\nThese visits may also take place throughout Bright Week\, especially if weather or crowds prevent Sunday observance.\nThis practice reminds us that Christ’s Resurrection brings hope and life to all\, including the faithful departed.\n\n\n2. Hayivky: Easter Folk Songs and Dances\nHayivky (Гаївки) are traditional Ukrainian circle dances and songs celebrating Easter and spring renewal. \n\nTypically performed on parish grounds\, village greens\, or during family gatherings\, these dances proclaim Christ’s victory over death while fostering communal joy.\nChildren\, youth\, and adults participate\, singing refrains like “Christ is risen!” and performing choreographed circle dances.\nHayivky often accompany other Bright Week festivities\, including water dousing on Easter Monday\, linking folk celebration with faith.\n\n\n3. Easter Monday: Bright Monday / Wet Monday (Поливний Понеділок)\nIn Ukrainian tradition\, Easter Monday—called Bright Monday in liturgical terms and Wet Monday in folk culture—is a day of joyful renewal. \nLiturgical Context: \n\nFalls within Bright Week\, continuing the celebration of the Resurrection.\nDivine Liturgy is celebrated in Paschal tone\, with no kneeling and emphasis on baptismal renewal.\nSymbolically\, this day highlights the continuation of Easter joy and the renewal of life in Christ.\n\nFolk Customs: \n\nThe name Поливний Понеділок comes from the tradition of dousing each other with water\, perfume\, or cologne\, especially among youth and families.\nThis practice symbolizes baptismal renewal\, purification\, and the awakening of spring\, Christianizing older pre-Christian rites of cleansing.\nParticipants visit homes\, sprinkle water while exchanging Paschal greetings\, sing Easter songs\, and share blessed foods.\nSome regions connect the tradition with Oblivanka\, a playful courtship custom framed by Resurrection faith.\n\nIntegration with Parish Life: \n\nFamilies may visit graves if Sunday was not possible\, bringing blessed foods and prayers.\nHayivky dances can be organized outdoors\, often alongside safe water play for children.\nYouth groups may lead activities\, teaching both Resurrection theology and cultural heritage.\n\n\n4. Bright Week Celebration Flow\nSaint Nicholas Parish can embrace a full week of Paschal joy: \n\n\n\n\n\nDay\nParish & Folk Tradition\n\n\n\n\nSunday\nPaschal Matins\, Divine Liturgy\, blessing of baskets\, optional graveside visits\n\n\nMonday\nBright Monday / Wet Monday: water dousing\, graves\, hayivky\, family meals\n\n\nTuesday+\nContinued hayivky\, communal meals\, visits\, and celebrations of renewal\n\n\n\n\n\nThese practices embody the living heritage of the UGCC\, blending liturgical solemnity\, family devotion\, and joyful folk expression. \n\nSummary\nThe Graveside Visits\, Hayivky\, and Easter Monday Water Traditions complement the parish’s liturgical celebration of Pascha\, extending Resurrection joy into family\, community\, and culture. Together\, they remind us that Christ’s victory over death is not just a single day but a week-long experience of life\, light\, and love\, faithfully transmitted through UGCC practice and Ukrainian heritage. \n\nChrist is risen!

SUMMARY:Evergreen Cemetery @ 5PM - Easter Graveside Visits
DESCRIPTION:🌿 Provody (Проводи): Easter Graveside Visits in Ukrainian Tradition\nProvody is a Ukrainian tradition of visiting cemeteries during the Paschal season to remember deceased family members. It is observed in various forms across Ukraine and in Ukrainian diaspora communities\, most commonly during the weeks following Easter or on Thomas Sunday\, depending on local custom. \n\n📜 Historical Background\nSpringtime remembrance of the dead existed in many pre-Christian Slavic communities as a seasonal family and ancestral practice connected with the arrival of spring. \nWith the Christianization of Kievan Rus’ (10th century)\, these existing cultural patterns of remembrance were gradually integrated into the life of the Church and reinterpreted through the Christian understanding of prayer for the dead and the Resurrection of Christ. \nOver time\, this developed into the Eastern Slavic practice known as Radonitsa or\, in Ukrainian tradition\, Provody\, shaped by parish life\, local customs\, and pastoral practice. \n\n🌿 Development in Ukrainian Tradition\nIn Ukrainian villages and parishes\, Provody became a regular springtime custom. Families would visit cemeteries after Easter services or during the Paschal season to remember their departed relatives. \nBy the 17th–19th centuries\, common elements included: \n\nvisiting and cleaning family graves\nplacing flowers and lighting candles\noffering prayers for the deceased\ngathering as families in remembrance\n\nIn many communities\, priests also visited cemeteries to offer prayers and blessings. \n\n🌸 Traditional Practice\nCemetery Visits\nFamilies visit graves during the Paschal season\, often in the days or weeks following Easter\, depending on local tradition. \nGraves are cleaned and decorated with flowers\, candles\, and sometimes embroidered cloths. \n\nPrayer and Remembrance\nAt the graves\, families: \n\npray for their deceased relatives\nexchange the Paschal greeting:“Christ is risen!” – “Indeed He is risen!”\nremember loved ones by name\n\nIn some parishes\, clergy may lead short prayers or blessings. \n\nFamily Gathering and Food\nA distinctive feature of Provody is the sharing of Easter food such as paska and dyed eggs. \nThese foods are understood as part of family celebration and remembrance of the Resurrection. Prayer remains the central act\, while shared food reflects family unity and continuity of Easter joy. \n\n🌍 Modern Practice\nToday\, Provody continues in Ukraine and throughout the Ukrainian diaspora\, including Canada\, the United States\, and Europe. \nWhile the timing and form may vary: \n\ncemetery visits remain common during the Paschal season\nparish-organized services are often held\nfamilies continue the practice of remembrance and prayer\n\nUrban life and migration have made the practice more flexible\, but its core elements remain. \n\n🌿 Cultural Significance\nProvody reflects: \n\ncontinuity of family memory\nthe integration of faith and culture\nseasonal rhythms of remembrance in spring\nthe importance of cemeteries as places of memory and prayer\n\n\n✨ Summary\nProvody is a Ukrainian Easter-season tradition of visiting cemeteries to remember the departed\, shaped by early Slavic customs and later developed within Christian parish life as a practice of prayer\, remembrance\, and family continuity.

SUMMARY:COR - Morning Prayer and Coffee for the Man
DESCRIPTION:COR – Morning Prayer and Coffee for the Man\nA Journey of the Heart for Catholic Men\nThe Knights of Columbus continue to invite Catholic men into a deeper life of faith through COR — a formation initiative whose name comes from the Latin word for “heart.” COR is not simply a program. It is a path of interior renewal\, fraternity\, and spiritual growth. \nEach month\, we gather first around the altar for the Divine Liturgy at 9:00 AM\, grounding everything in prayer and the Eucharistic life of the Church. Afterward\, we meet for coffee and open conversation. The atmosphere is simple and fraternal. There are no complicated expectations — only men seeking Christ together. \nBeginning with the Good News\nOur current formation series\, Men of the Word – A Bible Study for Catholic Men\, began at the very foundation of Christianity: the Gospel. \nIn Session One: The Good News\, we reflected on key Scripture passages — including the encounter on the Road to Emmaus and the call to proclaim Christ. We were reminded that Christianity does not begin with rules or moral demands. It begins with an encounter. The Good News is that Jesus Christ is alive\, seeks us personally\, walks beside us\, and reveals Himself in Word and Sacrament. \nBefore we can live the Commandments\, understand Church teaching\, or lead our families well\, we must first receive the transforming truth that we are loved and redeemed. \nRediscovering Who We Are\nFrom there\, we moved to Session Two: Created for God. If the Gospel tells us what Christ has done for us\, this session asks a deeper question: Who are we? \nWe reflected on the truth that we are not accidents of history or products of chance. We are created intentionally\, in the image and likeness of God. Our dignity as men comes not from achievement\, status\, or success — but from being sons of the Father. \nTo understand that we are created for communion with God changes everything. It reshapes how we see our vocation\, how we treat others\, how we approach suffering\, and how we lead in our homes and parishes. Our hearts are restless because they were made for Him. \nCasting Nets into Deeper Waters\nThis study forms part of a longer spiritual journey we call A Fisherman’s Guide to Faith and Life. Rooted in the Catechism of the Catholic Church\, this path gradually explores: \n\n\nThe Commandments — guiding our moral life \n\n\nThe Liturgical Year — shaping our spiritual rhythm \n\n\nThe Teachings of the Church — grounding us in truth \n\n\nLike fishermen casting their nets into Alberta’s waters\, we learn patience\, discipline\, and perseverance. Faith grows not in isolation\, but in fraternity. \nThese gatherings are open to all Catholic men\, whether lifelong Knights or those simply searching for deeper meaning. While our spirituality is rooted in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic tradition\, we draw deeply from both Eastern and Western expressions of the one Catholic faith — “breathing with both lungs\,” as Pope John Paul II once described the Church. \nWe begin simply — meeting once a month. As fraternity grows\, so may the rhythm of our gatherings. \nMen are not meant to walk alone. We invite you to come\, pray\, reflect\, and grow — heart to heart\, COR to COR — in Christ. \nCome\, pray\, learn\, and grow in faith with us. \nIn Christ\,Fr.

SUMMARY:Saint Michael Cemetery @ 2PM - Easter Graveside Visits
